Floating Market
The floating market of Pattaya, Thailand.
It’s a great way to experience the ‘four corners’ (or regions) of Thailand.
See what is available to eat! Scorpion anyone? Grasshopper? Perhaps a Cicada?
The Pattaya floating market is full of goodies to purchase, though you will be paying a more premium price than other more local and smaller markets, as this is a tourist destination hot-spot. For example, I bought a dress at a store at the floating market, which was 500 Baht. The same (or similar dresses) are available in the night market stalls near my hotel in Pattaya for about 300 Baht. We’re only talking a few extra dollars (100 Baht is currently about US$3 – $4) which may only influence your shopping if you are filling your bags with souvenirs for taking home.) Scarves and pashminas are also abundant at the floating market.
It’s worth the experience to go. It provides great photo opportunities. It’s also a unique vibe as you experience the scramble of energy with locals and tourists bidding for hot snacks being cooked off the gondolas, ice-cream vendors offering variations of a cold delicious treat (highly recommended) to stave off the humid tropical heat and negotiations in full swing as people barter for lower prices. All at the Pattaya floating market.
